Union Celebrates Judicial Victory and Commits to Enhanced Local Governance During Thank You Rally

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) proudly extols President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to enhancing local governance, as reflected in the recent Supreme Court judgement affirming Local Government Autonomy. This monumental decision represents a crucial step towards empowering local governments, ensuring they have the autonomy necessary to effectively serve their communities and address the unique challenges faced at the grassroots level.

Today, the Oyo NULGE family, in obedience to the national directive, stands united under the able leadership of President General Ambali Akeem Olatunji, fcpa. Ably represented by the National Young Workers’ Representative, Comrade Rufus Babalola, fcpa, and joined by the State Administrative & Executive Councils led by the State President, Com. Adeogun Ayobami, fcpa and all Local Branch Executives, State Secretary Chief Segun Netufo, and the staff of the state secretariat, the union expresses its collective joy and optimism for the future.

“This judgement is a testament to the relentless efforts and dedication of the union’s leadership and members in advocating for a more decentralized and effective governance structure,” said Rufus.

Oyo NULGE is resolutely waiting for the implementation of this landmark judgement, with the belief that it will significantly enhance the quality of life for the entire citizenry, particularly those at the grassroots. The union is confident that Local Government Autonomy will lead to improved service delivery, greater transparency, and more robust socio-economic development. By empowering local governments, this decision will bring governance closer to the people, making it more responsive and accountable to their needs and aspirations.

In addition to celebrating this judicial victory, the Oyo NULGE family under the active leadership of Comrade Adeogun Ayobami, fcpa, takes this opportunity to congratulate the President General of their esteemed union, Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji, fcpa. His passion, resilience, energy, and unwavering commitment to the campaign for Local Government Autonomy have been instrumental in achieving this significant milestone. Comrade Olatunji’s tireless lobbying and advocacy efforts throughout the 36 States and FCT have played a crucial role in bringing this issue to the forefront, culminating in the favourable Supreme Court decision.

Furthermore, NULGE extends its heartfelt congratulations to Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin on his installment as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The union prays for God’s continued blessings upon His Majesty, wishing him good health, a sound mind, and a prosperous reign. NULGE is confident that Oba Olakulehin’s leadership will bring continued peace, progress, and development to Ibadan and its people.

The President of NULGE urges all members to remain resolute and undivided in their support for the union’s goals. Unity and solidarity are paramount as NULGE continues to advocate for the rights and welfare of local government employees and the broader community. The successful implementation of Local Government Autonomy requires the collective effort and commitment of all members, working together towards a common goal.

In conclusion, the Oyo State chapter of NULGE expresses its profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Supreme Court for their roles in advancing Local Government Autonomy. The union looks forward to the swift and effective implementation of this judgement, confident that it will bring about significant improvements in local governance and enhance the quality of life for people at the grassroots. NULGE remains dedicated to its mission and will continue to strive for the betterment of its members and the communities they serve.
