Developing a Modern Retail Economy As Oyo State strives for industrialisation, one of the key areas to focus on is the retail economy. Retail serves as the bridge between manufacturers and consumers, playing an essential role in economic development. The rise of both physical retail spaces such as shopping malls and the burgeoning e-commerce landscape offers tremendous potential for economic diversification, job creation, and infrastructure development. Oyo State, with its rapidly growing urban centres like Ibadan, is uniquely positioned to foster the growth of a modern retail economy that can serve both local and international markets. In this series, we…

It is better to begin this reaction with a question and the question begging for answer is: did Senator Fatai Buhari make a data gaffe with his election statistics or was it a deliberate attempt at watering down the ongoing advocacy for Governorship Power Rotation in Oyo State? Recently, many of us will recall that, Senator Abdul Fatai Buhari, who is representing Oyo North Senatorial District of Oyo State in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, granted an interview where he gave a wrong and miscalculated statistics about the voting percentage of the five regions who are stakeholders with…

About two weeks ago, I sat in a group of about six to seven people and an aged citizen approached us to beg for financial support. One or two members of the group reached out and afterwards, a discussion ensued on what could be responsible for a senior citizen to take to begging. He failed to properly plan for his old age. He was lavish in his youthful days. Maybe he has always been poor all his life. Each person advanced a reason as to the man’s predicament. Soon, the discourse proceeded to how Nigerians fail to plan for old age…

Today, we are not in mourning but in reverent celebration — to honour a woman who was more than a name, more than a title. Her Excellency Ambassador Ibironke Adefope was an icon, an amazon, a giant in stature and soul — and to me, a dear mother – ‘Iya tooto’. Her life was a radiant testimony to excellence, grace, and purposeful service. With every step she took — from boardrooms to diplomatic missions, from academic halls to advisory councils — she exuded an unwavering strength cloaked in humility. She didn’t merely exist in public life; she blazed a trail…

The battle for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party has reportedly pitted the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, against the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike. The two political gladiators used to be good friends and played a key role in the victory of President Bola Tinubu in 2023, following their resolve to work against the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The duo, alongside Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Samuel Ortom — then governors of Abia, Enugu and Benue states respectively- formed the G-5 bloc and insisted on a southern presidential ticket; but Atiku, who comes from the North,…
