The bridge between Kishi and Igbope did not attend Oyo State’s fiftieth-anniversary celebrations on 3 February 2026—nor was it invited. While political leaders gathered in Ibadan for speeches, plaques, and declarations of progress, the bridge lay collapsed in the river it was built to cross, a slab of concrete submerged in silence. It had remained in that state for over a year. On a Friday morning just past daybreak, Madam Asisatu—a pepper trader in her early forties, backing a newborn baby whilst leading two other toddlers in tow—walked past its remains on her way from Kisi to Igbope. She balanced…

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has issued a fresh 14-day compliance notice to Durantee Farm Limited, Challenge, Ibadan, over its failure to comply with environmental directives earlier issued to the company. The notice was served by OYRLEA, in collaboration with health officers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. The joint team carried out a follow-up inspection on February 9, 2026, after the expiration of a 21-day Notice to Abate Nuisance previously served on the company on November 10, 2025, over alleged environmental violations. The earlier enforcement notice was reportedly issued due to improper wastewater…

Senate Revises Electoral Law, Retains E-Transmission but Elevates Manual Results Where Networks Fail
The Nigerian Senate has amended the Electoral Act to retain mandatory electronic transmission of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IREV), while permitting manual result sheets to take precedence if electronic transmission is unsuccessful . The amendment to Section 60 of the Act was adopted on Tuesday during plenary proceedings presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and monitored by SaharaReporters. Under the revised provision, presiding officers at polling units are required to electronically transmit results to the IREV portal after voting concludes. However, the new clause introduces a contingency: where electronic transmission fails…

Fifteen years after his transition, Dr Síkírù Àyìndé Barrister (MFR) refuses to be remembered in the past tense. On his posthumous 78th birthday, his music still debates with society, still instructs, still consoles. Like a seasoned elder who may have left the room but not the conversation, Barrister remains present and audible. Much of this sustained remembrance is owed to The Barry Wonder Lives On (BWLO) WhatsApp group, whose Barry Guest of the Week (BGOTW) series has quietly become an invaluable oral archive of Barrister’s life, philosophy, and human side. Through carefully curated interviews with journalists, associates, fans, and confidants,…
