The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent of those who sat for the examination, obtaining at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Wushishi, announced the release on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

According to Wushishi, a total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 examination, comprising 682,352 males and 695,696 females. However, 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination, including 678,903 males and 693,089 females.
The Registrar further disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
The 2026 SSCE Internal examination was conducted from June 15 to July 23, 2026, across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as in six foreign countries — Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Saudi Arabia.
The nationwide marking exercise was conducted between August 17 and September 4, 2026, with the results released 63 days after the conclusion of the examination.
On examination malpractice, Wushishi said 1,406 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice during the 2026 examination, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025. This represents a 64.74 per cent decrease in reported malpractice cases.
He attributed the reduction to improved examination processes, stronger monitoring mechanisms and collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to protect the integrity of the examination.
The NECO Registrar also disclosed that 1,334 candidates with special needs participated in the 2026 SSCE, reflecting the council’s continued efforts to make its examinations more inclusive.
Wushishi said the council had completed the necessary marking, verification and quality-assurance processes before releasing the results, stressing the importance of ensuring that certificates issued by NECO accurately reflect candidates’ academic performance.
He commended the Federal Government, Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Education Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, the NECO Governing Board, National Assembly, security agencies, state governments, educational institutions and other stakeholders for their support.

He also praised NECO staff for their dedication to the successful conduct, marking and release of the examination results.
Candidates can now check their results through the official NECO results portal by selecting the 2026 examination year and examination type, then entering their result-checking token and registration number.
The official result portal is NECO Results Portal.
The release of the results marks the conclusion of the 2026 SSCE Internal examination cycle and enables candidates to proceed with admission and other post-secondary education processes.
