The Oyo State Government has extended by an additional 24 hours the curfew currently in force across 10 local government areas in the Oke-Ogun zone as part of intensified efforts to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
The extension was announced in a press statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
Governor Seyi Makinde had on Tuesday imposed a 16-hour curfew covering Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba local government areas following the abduction incident.
According to the government, the additional 24-hour extension is aimed at consolidating ongoing security operations to end the captivity of the abducted children and teachers in Oriire Local Government. It also seeks to discourage criminal elements from continuing what it described as the “dark enterprise” of making money through kidnapping and human blood.
The state government appealed to residents to remain patient and continue to trust its efforts as security agencies work towards bringing the unfortunate incident to a swift and decisive conclusion.
