    Oyebanji Secures Landslide Re-election as APC Sweeps All 16 LGAs in Ekiti Governorship Poll

    Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a second term in office after recording a resounding victory in Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election, winning in all 16 local government areas of the state.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji the winner in the early hours of Sunday after he polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,533 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who scored 12,872 votes.

    The Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, announced the results at the INEC headquarters on Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

    “Therefore, I, Adenike, am the returning officer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election… Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and stands re-elected,” Oladiji stated.

    According to INEC, the state has 988,251 registered voters, while 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, with valid votes standing at 375,777.

    The results also showed that the PDP candidate, Oluyede, who hails from Efon-Alaaye in Efon Local Government Area, was unable to secure victory in his home council, where the APC polled 8,742 votes against the PDP’s 2,051 votes, while the ADC scored 201 votes.

    The outcome of the election gave the APC candidate a commanding lead across the state, with the ruling party maintaining dominance in every local government area and securing another four-year mandate for Governor Oyebanji.
