The growing political collaboration between the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received a boost on Wednesday with the official unveiling of Hon. Muftau Open Salawu of Ogbomoso as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APM for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
The unveiling ceremony, held at the PDP Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, drew party leaders, political stakeholders, supporters, and other notable personalities from different parts of the state.
The event underscored the strengthening alliance between the APM and the PDP as both parties continue consultations and strategic preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders at the ceremony described Salawu’s emergence as a calculated move aimed at consolidating the alliance’s political strength and broadening its grassroots support across Oyo State, with particular emphasis on the Ogbomoso and Oke-Ogun geopolitical zones.
According to them, Salawu’s leadership qualities, political experience, and dedication to community development made him a fitting choice for the position. They expressed optimism that his nomination would further boost the coalition’s prospects in the forthcoming governorship election.
The leaders also reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two parties, stressing that the alliance was formed to offer a credible alternative capable of tackling the developmental challenges confronting the state.
In his acceptance speech, Salawu expressed appreciation to the leadership of both parties for the confidence reposed in him and promised to justify the trust placed in his candidature.
He assured members and supporters of his readiness to work closely with the governorship candidate, Adekambi, party executives, and other stakeholders to promote good governance, unity, and sustainable development across Oyo State.
“I appreciate the confidence and support of the leadership of both parties. I am committed to working tirelessly with all stakeholders to build a stronger political platform and deliver meaningful development to the people of Oyo State,” he said.
The ceremony ended with renewed appeals for unity among party members and a collective determination to build a formidable political structure capable of securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
