The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to coordinate activities for its forthcoming 60th anniversary celebration.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the council, Comrade Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.

According to the statement, former Chairman of the council, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, has been appointed Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, which is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing all activities connected with the diamond jubilee celebration.

Other members of the committee are Mr Sola Oladapo, Mr Kemi Olaitan, Mr Semiu Azeez, Mrs Bukola Owolabi, Mrs Olubunmi Olalere and Mrs Phebean Ojo.

The union expressed confidence in the ability of the committee to deliver a successful anniversary celebration, noting that the inauguration of the panel marks the commencement of preparations for the council’s 60th anniversary.

The council stated that the committee is made up of seasoned journalists and media professionals with proven capacity and commitment to the growth of the union and journalism practice in Oyo State.

It added that the committee would soon unveil programmes aimed at celebrating the achievements of the NUJ and honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to the media profession in the state.

According to the statement, the committee is also expected to work closely with the State Working Committee to ensure a successful diamond jubilee celebration.
