By denying El-Rufai bail again today, it’s obvious this government wants to keep him until after the 2027 elections because of fear of his political sagacity. But the law which allows El-Rufai to be kept in indefinite detention while others who have committed worse crimes and have even picked up APC tickets is yet unclear to discerning Nigerians. El-Rufai has refused to compromise on his principles and accept the bail conditions that will deny him his fundamental rights to free speech, association and participation in the politics of 2027 hence, the refusal to release him from unlawful detention like some of the lily-livered politicians who have found cover under the APC have done. Those who think people should keep quiet in the face of injustice and oppression by a leader put in power by the people are free to continue with their slave mentality. They quickly justify their cowardice by telling us that El-Rufai has been in detention for almost four months and Nigerians have moved on. Time and tide do not stop because anybody is facing any challenges or persecution at any given time, including the greatest prophets of the Almighty Allah. History only records how long oppressors thought they could ride roughshod over their victims before the day of reckoning catches up with them..True leaders are not afraid to give up their comfort if freedom would compromise their principles. Great Men and women of history have faced one form of persecution or confinement at some point in their lives. El-Rufai is no different. We his supporters have never relented in our solidarity with his stand. Our prayers are with him and will continue to strengthen him. We look not towards his rich and privileged friends and associates too weak to speak out but to our maker, Allah S.W.T who is the creator of even the oppressors and who can take back power from mere mortals.
