Twenty-Two Years of Waiting Over: Arsenal Crowned 2025/26 Premier League Champions After Manchester City Blinks at Bournemouth

Arsenal FC are officially the champion of England. The Gunners have brought an end to 22 years of agonising near-misses and top-flight heartbreak, securing the 2025/26 Premier League title with a game to spare.

Mikel Arteta’s side clinched their 14th league title on Tuesday night without kicking a ball. Following Arsenal’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday evening, their closest rivals, Manchester City, faced a must-win scenario against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. However, an intense 1-1 draw left Pep Guardiola’s side trailing Arsenal by an unassailable four points, confirming the North London club’s mathematical coronation.

Ending the Agony of the Run-In

The championship serves as a monumental breakthrough for Mikel Arteta, who becomes the first manager to guide the Gunners to a Premier League trophy since legendary boss Arsène Wenger steered “The Invincibles” to an unbeaten season in 2003/04.

The triumph is particularly sweet for Arsenal after finishing as runners-up for three consecutive seasons, twice being chased down late in the campaign by Manchester City. This year, despite City erasing Arsenal’s nine-point lead late in the spring, Arteta’s men showed incredible resolve. They emerged from a brutal home stretch by rattling off four successive victories without conceding a single goal.

    The Stats Behind the Crown

With 37 games played, Arsenal’s title-winning campaign is a testament to elite defensive stability and programmatic growth:

    Points Tallied82 points (25 wins, 7 draws, 5 losses)
Defensive Record26 goals conceded (Best in the league)
    Clean Sheets19 clean sheets total
Golden Glove WinnerDavid Raya (Third consecutive season)

While Manchester City outpaced Arsenal in total goals scored (76 to 69), the Gunners’ absolute lockdown at the back proved to be the ultimate difference-maker in the title race.

Scenes of Jubilee from Hertfordshire to N5

As news of Erling Haaland’s late, equalizing strike in stoppage time proved too little too late for City in Bournemouth, celebrations erupted across the capital. Thousands of ecstatic fans flooded the streets outside the Emirates Stadium, chanting into the London night.

Meanwhile, the squad and coaching staff gathered at the club’s training ground in Hertfordshire to watch the final whistle blow. Midfielder Declan Rice took to Instagram within minutes, posting a jubilant photo alongside teammates Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Kai Havertz, and Eberechi Eze, captioned: “I told you all.. it’s done,” referencing his rallying cry after a crushing defeat to City earlier in the month.

To cap off the historic night, the club released an official video introduced by Arsène Wenger himself, raising a glass of red wine to the new champions: “Champions go on when others stop,” Wenger smiled. “Now go on and enjoy every moment.”

The Hunt for an Immortal Double

At just 44 years of age, Mikel Arteta cements his status as an Arsenal immortal, becoming the second-youngest manager in history to win the Premier League, just behind José Mourinho in 2005.

But the party won’t last long for the newly crowned champions. Arsenal now have a chance to secure arguably the greatest season in their 140-year history. With the domestic trophy in the bag, the Gunners are turning their attention to Budapest next week, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final, hunting for a historic European and domestic double.
