The Muslim Ummah has been informed that Tuesday, February 17, 2026, corresponding to the 29th day of Sha’aban 1447AH, has been set aside for the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan 1447AH.

In a press release issued by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Muslims across the country are requested to begin searching for the new crescent on the designated date.

The statement urged all Muslims who sight the moon to promptly report their observations to the nearest District Head or Village Head for onward communication to Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto.
The announcement emphasised the importance of fulfilling this religious obligation in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The release concluded with a prayer seeking divine assistance, asking Allah (SWT) to help the faithful in the discharge of this religious duty.
