The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has announced the completion of investigations into disciplinary cases involving sixteen officers earlier arrested for acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Defence Headquarters recalled that it had informed the public in October 2025 about the arrest of the affected officers. He disclosed that investigations into the matter have now been concluded, with the final report forwarded to the appropriate superior authorities in line with extant regulations.
According to the statement, the investigation was comprehensive and conducted strictly in accordance with established military procedures. It carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the personnel involved. The findings identified several officers as being linked to allegations of plotting to overthrow the government—acts described as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Major General Uba stated that officers found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial in line with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations. He noted that the process is intended to ensure accountability while upholding fairness and due process.
The AFN further clarified that the measures being taken are purely disciplinary and form part of its internal mechanisms to preserve order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks. The statement reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ resolve to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority.
The military assured the public of its continued commitment to institutional integrity and constitutional governance.
