The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over increasing media reports and commentaries speculating about a possible change in the party’s presidential running mate ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Reacting to the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, CON, described the reports as misleading and irresponsible, noting that while the speculation initially appeared subtle, it has now escalated to the extent that specific individuals are being touted as possible replacements for Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Morka stated categorically that the stories are entirely speculative, false, and devoid of any factual basis, stressing that they do not reflect the position, deliberations, or intentions of the APC.
He urged media organisations to exercise restraint and professionalism by refraining from amplifying rumours and narratives promoted by mischievous elements and unverifiable sources whose sole aim is to sow confusion and discord within the polity.
The party further reiterated that, in line with existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, making any discussion or speculation about the 2027 presidential ticket premature and inappropriate.
According to the APC spokesman, the party is currently focused on supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration’s bold reforms are steadily transforming the economy, fostering prosperity, and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
Morka also cautioned ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders against making statements that could, wittingly or unwittingly, fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them instead to concentrate on diligent service to government and the party, while consolidating the achievements of President Tinubu, whom he described as a visionary and transformative leader.
