PDP National Convention Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Ajibade, Others Over Anti-Party Activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several prominent members, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN). Others expelled are Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, George Turner, Hon. Umar Bature, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, and additional members found culpable of anti-party activities.

The far-reaching decision was taken on Friday at the party’s ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, and was ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates. The move marks a decisive step by the PDP to restore internal cohesion, discipline, and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, moved the motion for the expulsion, stating that the affected individuals had engaged in acts aimed at undermining and destabilizing the party. His motion was adopted without resistance, signalling widespread support among party stakeholders for a tougher stance on indiscipline.

Before the expulsion motion, the Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee, Senator Ben Obi, had posed the question on whether the gathering should proceed as an Elective Convention. He subsequently moved a motion to formally designate it as such, receiving support from Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, who seconded the motion.

The convention also witnessed Governor Seyi Makinde moving a motion for the ratification and confirmation of Executive Committees and party structures produced through congresses monitored by INEC and security agencies. The ratification covered all compliant states except Imo, Abia, Enugu, and Rivers, following concerns about irregularities. Mr. Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu seconded the motion.

In another major development, delegates moved to dissolve the current National Working Committee (NWC), paving the way for fresh leadership. The convention also approved amendments to several sections of the PDP constitution to strengthen internal processes and enhance party administration.

The series of resolutions taken at the Ibadan convention reflect a sweeping attempt by the PDP to reposition itself, eliminate internal sabotage, and rebuild public confidence ahead of future political contests.
