Obiano Alive and Well in Texas, Not London — Former Commissioner Debunks Death Rumour

Former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, is alive, healthy, and residing in Texas, United States contrary to widespread rumours circulating on social media and some online platforms claiming he had died in London.

The clarification was issued on Friday by Don Adinuba, former Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment in Anambra State, who described the reports as entirely baseless.

“The Nigerian media have been abuzz in the last couple of hours over a rumour that the immediate past Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has passed on in London. This rumour has no basis,” Adinuba said in a statement.

“Chief Obiano lives in Texas, United States, and not London. He is not just alive but healthy, strong, and too agile for someone who has just turned 70 years.”

Adinuba noted that despite choosing a quiet private life abroad nearly four years after leaving office, the former governor continues to occupy a place of affection in the hearts of many Nigerians. He said the widespread concern triggered by the rumour reflects the impact Obiano made during his time in office.

“The outpouring of love across the globe following the rumour shows how much Chief Obiano matters to many,” he added.

The former commissioner compared the false report to past unfounded rumours about iconic figures, stating: “At only 70 years, Chief Obiano has joined the pantheon of men like the Great Zik of Africa, whose rumoured death turned out to be utterly false and without any foundation.”

The statement urged the public to disregard the misinformation and assured that Obiano remains in good health.
