The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has officially confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Bilaal Oseni Akinola as the new Chief Imam of Oyo, describing the selection as both a divine trust and a historic moment for the ancient city.

In a formal statement personally issued by the monarch, Oba Owoade expressed his heartfelt joy over the appointment, which he said reflected Allah’s mercy and blessings upon the new Chief Imam and the entire Muslim community of Oyo.

“Having passed through the duly constituted screening teams, I have the pleasure to inform you that you have been selected by me as the new Chief Imam of Oyo City,” the Alaafin declared. “This moment is not only significant for our people but also sacred in the eyes of Allah, for leadership in Islam is a trust that demands humility, sincerity, and justice.”
The monarch described the office of the Chief Imam as one of deep responsibility rather than mere honor. According to him, “The Chief Imam is not only the leader of prayer but also a moral guide, a voice of peace, and a source of unity for the Muslim Ummah. He stands as the conscience of the people, advising both the throne and the community and reminding us all of our duties before Allah.”

Oba Owoade charged Alhaji Bilaal Oseni Akinola to lead with wisdom, compassion, and humility, adding that he should “be a light to the people, a voice of truth, and a pillar of peace.” He also urged the new Chief Imam to strengthen the bond between the palace and the mosque, between faith and leadership, and to promote understanding among all people of Oyo.
Praying for divine guidance, the Alaafin said, “May Almighty Allah bless him with sound judgment, patience, and courage. May He protect him from pride and error and grant him the strength to carry out his duties faithfully.”

Oba Owoade concluded by formally sealing the appointment, stating: “So today, under the seal of the Alaafin of Oyo, I officially confirm the appointment of Alhaji Bilaal Oseni Akinola as Chief Imam of Oyo, in service to Allah, in honor of our forebears, and for the peace and progress of our land.”
