PDP Takes Tough Stand After Court Ruling, Suspends Four National Officers

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its top national officers for one month, following the recent court ruling that halted the party’s planned national convention.

The suspended officials are:

  • Senator Samuel Anyanwu – National Secretary
  • Umar Bature – National Organising Secretary
  • Kamaldeen Ajibade – National Legal Adviser
  • Okechukwu Osuoha – Deputy National Legal Adviser

Announcing the decision at a press briefing on Saturday at the party’s Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the suspension was approved during an emergency meeting of the NWC.

He stated that the action was taken in line with Sections 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) over alleged anti-party activities.

According to the statement issued after the meeting, the four officials have been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action. During the suspension period, they are barred from performing duties associated with their offices.

To fill the leadership vacuum, the party directed that:

  • Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, will act as National Secretary in line with Section 36(2) of the party’s Constitution.
  • The National Director of Legal Services will oversee the activities of the Legal Department pending the outcome of the disciplinary process for the National Legal Adviser and his deputy.

The move comes barely days after a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the PDP from holding its November 15 and 16 national convention in Ibadan until statutory requirements are met.
