The Oyo State House of Assembly has endorsed the early resumption of Governor Seyi Makinde, who cut short his annual leave to participate in the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
At its plenary sitting on Thursday, September 25, 2025, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, the Assembly formally received and approved the Governor’s resumption notice.
Governor Makinde, who had initially scheduled his annual leave to run from August 29 to September 29, 2025, explained in his letter that the historic and culturally significant coronation of the new Olubadan necessitated his early return. “I shall resume duty tomorrow, 26th September 2025, and hereby assume the full functions of the office of Governor of Oyo State,” the letter read in part.
The Governor also expressed gratitude to his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, for holding forth as Acting Governor during his absence, noting that Lawal would now return to his substantive position.
Members of the House welcomed the Governor’s decision, unanimously adopting the resumption notice. They commended Makinde for his commitment to Oyo’s cultural heritage and praised his leadership in ensuring he would personally oversee the momentous coronation ceremony.
The Assembly also used the occasion to reaffirm its support for traditional institutions and lauded the Executive’s proactive steps to guarantee a smooth coronation process in Ibadanland.
