Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing party discipline and ensuring the success of the forthcoming National Elective Convention, despite mounting threats from the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The governors, under the umbrella of the PDP Governors’ Forum, made the declaration on Tuesday during the inauguration of the National Convention Planning Committee. The forum’s chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, spoke on their behalf, stressing that the party would not bow to arrogance, impunity, or divisive politics.
Governor Mohammed’s remarks came in direct response to conditions issued by Wike and his allies, who after a meeting in Abuja on Monday, outlined six demands that the PDP leadership must meet for the convention—scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State—to hold peacefully.
Undeterred, the Bauchi governor maintained that the PDP governors would not be distracted, insisting that the convention would go on as planned. He declared that the leadership of the party was ready to confront anyone who attempted to obstruct its progress.
“We are not cowards, and we are not afraid of anybody. We are capable of navigating this party beyond the shenanigans, beyond the arrogance, and beyond the impunity of others,” Mohammed stated.
“We cannot continue to take part and allow people to take us to the slaughterhouse. That’s our job—and our job is to make sure we don’t go to the slaughterhouse. We are working as governors and working with the committee to ensure that. The keyword is discipline.”
In a stern warning, he added: “We will no longer allow or tolerate anybody to take us for granted. It has to stop. Enough is enough. We are not going to tolerate it any longer.”
The PDP National Elective Convention is expected to be a decisive moment for the opposition party as it positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
