Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and 2018 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, has formally resigned his membership of the party.
Olusola-Eleka’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 24, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of his Okeruku Ward 2 in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area. A copy of the letter was made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday.
The professor of Building Technology, who served as Deputy Governor under the administration of former Governor Ayodele Fayose between 2014 and 2018, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve but cited the party’s inability to provide credible leadership and opposition in the country as his reason for leaving.
“After a thorough self-review and wide consultation, I wish to formally resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I appreciate the platform the party gave me to serve Ekiti State and contribute to our democracy. However, the current structure and disposition of the PDP no longer offer the path for effective opposition or hope for national renewal,” Olusola-Eleka stated.
Reliable sources indicate that the former Deputy Governor is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is expected to play a strategic role ahead of the next electoral cycle in Ekiti politics.
His exit adds to the growing list of high-profile defections from the PDP in recent months, as internal crises and shifting political alliances continue to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
