The leadership caucus of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election, citing his ancestral ties to the state. The endorsement comes alongside a firm reaffirmation of support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second-term bid in the 2026 governorship election.

This was part of a communique issued at the end of the caucus meeting held today at the Government House in Osogbo, following what was described as extensive consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, market leaders, party members, and residents across Osun State.

The caucus addressed concerns surrounding recent political speculations, particularly rumours of Governor Adeleke’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). It noted that while some APC members in the state had shown resistance and hostility to the idea, the narrative did not originate from the governor. PDP members, though uncomfortable with the possibility, were said to be willing to follow Adeleke due to loyalty and admiration for his leadership.

Key resolutions from the meeting include:

  1. Endorsement of President Tinubu: The caucus declared its adoption and endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, noting his Osun State ancestry and national leadership role.
  2. Support for Governor Adeleke: The caucus reaffirmed its backing of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election on the platform of the PDP in 2026.
  3. Commitment to PDP: Members resolved that both Governor Adeleke and the entire PDP structure in the state should remain within the party, rejecting any defection rumours.
  4. Mobilisation Across Party Structures: The PDP leadership was tasked with disseminating these resolutions to all party organs and stakeholders in the state.
  5. Focus on Governance: Governor Adeleke was urged to continue implementing his administration’s Five-Point Agenda to deliver democratic dividends to the people of Osun State.

The communique was signed by 28 prominent PDP leaders including Governor Ademola Adeleke, former Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, members of the National Assembly, State Assembly, and several party chieftains.

The resolutions mark a strategic shift in Osun PDP’s positioning ahead of the next electoral cycles and reflect an attempt to balance party loyalty with regional and national political calculations.
