As Muslims across the world usher in the new Islamic year, the Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) has called for sober reflection, unity, and a renewed commitment to Islamic values among the faithful.

In a press release jointly signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni, and Secretary-General, Alhaji Murisiku Abidemi Siyanbade, MUSCOYS described the sacred moment of Hijrah 1447 A.H. as a significant period that should inspire introspection and deeper appreciation of the historical and spiritual essence of the Hijrah.
The statement read in part: “As Muslims in Oyo State join others to mark the beginning of a new Hijrah 1447 A.H, it is essential to know that the sacred moment calls for deep reflection on the essence and importance of Hijrah in our lives.”
The group noted that Hijrah, the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE, remains a pivotal event in Islamic history that marked the establishment of a free Muslim community where Islamic principles could be fully practiced.
MUSCOYS acknowledged that, like the trials faced during the original Hijrah, modern-day challenges continue to confront the Muslim Ummah. It urged Muslims to draw strength from the unity displayed by early Muslims and to transcend ideological divides in favour of Islamic brotherhood.
“Though these challenges and trials are still there, as Muslims, we should work towards improving on our tested unity and deep various ideologies by being Muslims and embrace Islamic brotherhood in all our affairs,” the statement said.
The organisation encouraged believers to use the opportunity of the new year to migrate spiritually and morally from negative practices that cause disunity and expose the Ummah to ridicule.
“This new Islamic year, therefore, offers us a divine opportunity to rethink and restrategise to be true Muslims and migrate from our former ways that have divided us and exposed us to the ridicule of our adversaries,” MUSCOYS added.
They concluded by praying for a year filled with peace, progress, and divine blessings for the entire Muslim community.
“May this year usher in true unity, progress, and divine blessings for the Ummah. Ameen.”
