The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has urged the newly inaugurated management of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) to swiftly initiate visionary and transformative programmes that emphasise quality execution and timely delivery.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Bisi Oladele, and Public Relations Officer, Remi Oladoye, the guild congratulated the commission’s leadership team and encouraged them to focus on projects that will accelerate economic and infrastructural development across the South West region.

SWEGOP particularly advised the commission to work closely with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission, noting that such collaboration would ensure optimal use of resources and accelerate regional integration.

“SWEGOP welcomes SWDC to the overall efforts at making South West Nigeria the best place to live, invest, study and recreate,” the statement read. “The DAWN Commission has laid a good foundation for this since 2013. Riding on its frameworks will enhance the speedy achievement of SWDC’s lofty goals.”

The guild stressed that the commission has a pivotal role to play in addressing long-standing challenges in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, youth empowerment, and the promotion of Yoruba cultural values. It maintained that with strategic planning and effective implementation, the SWDC can become a catalyst for innovation, investment, and industrial growth in the region.

SWEGOP also expressed confidence in the leadership of key figures overseeing the commission. It singled out Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Senator Yunus Akintunde, and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi—who chair the National Assembly committees supervising the commission—as individuals capable of delivering on their mandates.

The guild further expressed optimism that the Managing Director of the commission, Dr. Charles Akinola, will deploy his vast experience in international development and public service to manage the commission efficiently and effectively.

“We believe that the calibre of people chosen to lead the commission positions it well to meet the high expectations of the region’s people,” SWEGOP stated.

The group called on the management team to design and implement impactful programmes that will significantly improve the lives of the people and uplift the region both economically and socially.

SWEGOP pledged to play its part by closely monitoring the commission’s activities, assuring that it would provide objective coverage while holding the leadership accountable to their promises.
