A fun-filled family event turned into a nightmare at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, as a stampede left multiple people dead and several injured. The tragic incident, which occurred during a children’s funfair, has plunged the Oyo State community into shock and grief.

Governor Seyi Makinde expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as a “very sad day” for Oyo State. Extending his condolences, he sympathized with grieving families whose joyful day ended in irreparable loss.

To address the unfolding crisis, Governor Makinde swiftly mobilized security agents to the venue to restore order and prevent further casualties. Emergency medical personnel, supported by ambulances, were dispatched to attend to the injured. The event was halted immediately, and attendees were safely evacuated.

In a bid to ensure accountability, the primary organizers of the event were taken into custody for questioning as investigations into the causes of the stampede began. Governor Makinde assured the public that anyone found responsible, whether directly or indirectly, would face justice.

The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and urged the public to allow security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation. He also prayed for the souls of the departed, wishing strength and comfort to their families.

As the community grapples with the emotional and physical aftermath of the tragedy, questions have emerged about the event’s planning and crowd control measures. Governor Makinde’s decisive response, including the deployment of security and medical resources, is being seen as a crucial step in addressing the immediate impact of the disaster.

This tragedy underscores the importance of rigorous planning, safety protocols, and crowd management in public events to prevent such occurrences in the future. Governor Makinde’s pledge for a full investigation and justice offers some solace to grieving families as the state mourns this devastating loss.
