The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, showing improvements in candidate performance and a significant reduction in malpractice incidents.

During a press briefing in Minna, NECO Registrar Professor Dantani Wushishi shared detailed statistics on the examination outcomes. Out of 1,376,423 registered candidates, 1,367,736 sat for the exams, with 706,950 males and 669,473 females participating.

A notable 60.55 percent of candidates, translating to 828,284 students, achieved five credits or more in key subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This performance increases to 83.90 percent when considering candidates who obtained five credits in any subject, regardless of English and Mathematics, bringing the number to 1,147,597 candidates.

Professor Wushishi also highlighted a significant reduction in examination malpractice, reporting 8,437 cases—a 30.1 percent drop from the 12,030 cases reported in 2023. However, 40 schools in 17 states were involved in mass cheating, and one school in Ekiti faces possible de-recognition for widespread malpractice in core subjects.

Additionally, 21 supervisors from 12 states were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision and involvement in malpractice.

Candidates are urged to check their results on NECO’s website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration number.

This year’s results mark a critical step toward improving academic standards and reducing cheating in the examination process.
