Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has initiated significant changes within his administration, emphasizing a strategic realignment aimed at enhancing governance. In a decisive move, the Governor announced the dissolution of the Ministry of Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling, which granted local governments autonomy across the country.
In addition to the structural change, the Governor removed Dr. Adamu Sambo Umar as the Commissioner of Health, a move he described as part of a broader effort to “rejig the machinery of governance for more results.” Mohammed clarified that the decision was not due to any shortcomings on Umar’s part but was simply a reorganization strategy. He assured that Umar would be reassigned to another role where his contributions would be more impactful.
The announcements came during the swearing-in ceremony of three new Commissioners and a Special Adviser on Security Matters, held at the EXCO Chambers of the Governor’s Office. Mohammed stressed the importance of injecting “fresh blood” into the government, bringing in individuals with new ideas to drive the state forward.
The Governor urged the new appointees to familiarize themselves with their roles quickly by studying the handover notes left by their predecessors. The newly sworn-in officials include Zaibab Babba Takko, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development; Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, Commissioner for Health; and Engr. Mohammed bn Abdulkadir, Commissioner for Commerce and Industries. Dr. AIG Ahmed Abdulrahman (rtd) was appointed as Special Adviser on Security Matters.
Mohammed’s reorganization efforts signal his determination to enhance administrative efficiency and ensure the government continues to meet its objectives in the evolving political landscape.
