In a landmark move towards a sustainable transportation future, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the first fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The introduction of these buses is part of the federal government’s broader initiative to reduce the environmental impact of Nigeria’s transport sector and decrease the nation’s dependency on traditional fossil fuels.

During the commissioning, President Tinubu emphasized that the shift to CNG-powered vehicles represents a critical step in addressing climate change and improving the economic efficiency of public transportation. He remarked that these buses, which will soon be deployed across the country’s major urban centers, are expected to significantly lower transportation costs for the average Nigerian while also cutting down on harmful emissions.

The President lauded the collaborative efforts of government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders who played key roles in bringing the CNG bus project to fruition. He assured Nigerians that this initiative is just the beginning of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the country’s public transport infrastructure while adhering to global environmental standards.

The introduction of CNG buses aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering innovation in the energy sector, promoting cleaner energy sources, and ensuring a sustainable future for all Nigerians. As these buses begin operations, they are poised to become a symbol of Nigeria’s forward-thinking approach to tackling environmental challenges and modernizing its transportation network.
