On Monday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde approved a hazard allowance for the personnel of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA). This announcement coincided with the inauguration of the new State Head of Service, Olubunmi Oni, two permanent secretaries, and 47 marshals.

The newly appointed permanent secretaries are Dr. G.O Oyedele, responsible for General Administration, and Alhaji Akeem Salami, in charge of Cabinet and Special Services. The governor announced the passing-out parade of 500 newly recruited OYRTMA officers and the inauguration of the marshals at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iseyin. The hazard allowance will be effective from August 1, 2024.

This approval was in response to a request by the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd.), aimed at boosting the morale and commitment of the agency’s staff. Governor Makinde acknowledged the achievements of OYRTMA in road management and stated that the allowance would enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of state workers. “I heard your request for hazard allowance and it’s approved with effect from 1st of August, 2024,” Makinde stated.

In his earlier address, Major Adekoya expressed gratitude for the governor’s support. He highlighted the rigorous recruitment process and the intensive training undergone by the new officers, who are now prepared to enforce traffic rules and ensure road safety.

Governor Makinde also inspected the ongoing construction at the Faculty of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources of Ladoke Akintola University in Iseyin after the inauguration.
