The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has consolidated its grassroots structures with the successful conduct of the 2025 Local Government Congress in Saki West, where new executive committee members emerged through consensus.

The congress, which was part of the party’s broader reorganisation strategy across local governments, was hailed as a reflection of unity, inclusiveness, and internal cohesion, setting the stage for stronger political mobilisation ahead of future elections.

According to the official list released, Alhaji Nurudeen Idris, popularly known as Aloma, from Ward 5 emerged as the new Local Government Chairman, while Mr Ayemojuba Abdulah from Ward 7 was elected Deputy Chairman. Other key officers include Mr Olanrewaju Laurence O. (Secretary, Ward 2), Mr Tiamiyu Razak (Assistant Secretary, Ward 8), and Mrs Babarinde Toyin (Treasurer, Ward 3).

The congress also produced Hon. Salami Waheed A. (Financial Secretary, Ward 10), Mr Oyewumi Sulaiman (Organising Secretary, Ward 9), and Mr Salaudeen Sarafadeen (Publicity Secretary, Ward 11), while Mr Ogunwale Rafiu (Ward 4) was named Assistant Publicity Secretary.

Further strengthening the structure, Mr Mikail Bagbansoro (Ward 8) was endorsed as Auditor, Mr Ismail Abdul Fatai (Ward 4) as Legal Adviser, and Mrs Kazeem Saidat Ayoka (Ward 6) as Woman Leader. Mr Olanrewaju Paul Seyi from Ward 1 was elected Youth Leader. In line with the party’s inclusivity drive, five ex officio members were also appointed across wards: Mr Wale Aremo, Mr Gbadamosi Mukaila Olumide, Mr Jimoh Rasaq A., Mrs Kakako Fa’liat, and Mrs Nurudeen Fasilat, ensuring gender balance and equitable representation.

A major highlight of the congress was the ratification of Dr Adbwasi Musah as the National Delegate from Saki West Local Government, giving him the mandate to represent the chapter in national deliberations.

Party leaders and stakeholders described the consensus outcome as a model for conflict-free political engagement, noting that the blend of youths, experienced administrators, and grassroots mobilisers in the new structure strategically positions the PDP for dominance in the local government.

In his acceptance remarks, the newly elected Chairman, Alhaji Nurudeen Idris, promised transparent leadership, unity among members, and effective mobilisation for future elections. He expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their confidence and assured them of synergy with elected representatives and community leaders to uphold PDP’s ideals.

Observers praised the peaceful process, stressing that the exercise demonstrated PDP’s strength and cohesion in Oyo State, especially in Saki West where political stakeholders had long emphasised the importance of harmony.

The development is considered a milestone for the PDP in Oyo State as it continues preparations for broader contests, with the Saki West leadership expected to play a pivotal role in consolidating the party’s influence in the region.
