Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has vowed to ensure that suspects linked to last year’s Ibadan stampede are brought to justice, emphasizing his administration’s determination to eradicate banditry and criminality across the state.

Speaking during a state function, Makinde recounted the impact of insecurity, revealing how he chose to celebrate his birthday quietly in Fashola last year due to safety concerns. “Within less than 1.5 kilometers from where I was staying, bandits had set up camps. This is a serious issue, and for us in Oyo State, they will never gain a foothold here. We will locate them, and we will deal with them,” he declared.

Makinde thanked service commanders for their efforts in maintaining peace, stating, “You have done very well for us in Oyo State. Nothing meaningful can occur in an atmosphere of insecurity. All the laudable things we wish to achieve will not be possible without a safe and secure environment.”

The governor also called on traditional rulers and residents to play their part by reporting suspicious activities. “We come from different locations, and our traditional rulers are the custodians of their domains. If you see any suspicious movement, please report it. It is in our collective interest,” he said.

Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring a secure Oyo State, pledging to intensify efforts to rid the state of bandits and wrongdoers.

Addressing the welfare of pensioners, Makinde announced that discussions on the review of remuneration to reflect the new minimum wage and consequential adjustments would be concluded this week.

In her welcome address, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, lauded Makinde for his worker-friendly policies, describing them as transformative. She encouraged workers to remain diligent in their duties to support the administration’s efforts.

Goodwill messages from key stakeholders also highlighted Makinde’s achievements. The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, represented by his deputy, Abiodun Fadeyi; the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Kayode Martins; and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Bosun Olabiyi, commended the governor for his commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly in the areas of promotion and improved working conditions.

Makinde’s twin focus on enhancing security and workers’ welfare underscores his administration’s resolve to build a stable, prosperous, and secure Oyo State for all residents.
