Tragedy struck the Olorunsogo area of Ibadan, Ona Ara Local Government, Oyo State, early Thursday morning as a building collapsed, leaving ten people dead and others still trapped under the debris.
The incident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., shocked the neighborhood, with residents awoken by an unusual, loud noise. Upon discovering the collapsed structure, neighbors immediately rushed to rescue those inside. Despite their efforts, only three survivors were pulled from the rubble in the initial moments, while others remained trapped.
Reverend Akinyemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, confirmed that his team received an emergency call from residents around 2:00 a.m. “The Oyo State Fire Services Agency responded swiftly, recovering ten bodies and rescuing seven others alive,” Akinyinka reported.
As rescue teams continue their efforts, the area remains in shock and mourning over the tragic loss of life.
