The Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has extended heartfelt condolences to the National Chairperson of NAWOJ and the people of Borno State following the recent devastating flooding that has affected the region.
In a statement signed by the Chairperson of Oyo NAWOJ, Omolola Alamu, and the Secretary, Eniola Adeaga, the association expressed deep sorrow over the impact of the disaster.
“The images and reports of the flooding are heart-wrenching, and our hearts go out to those affected,” the statement read. The Oyo NAWOJ further emphasized the importance of standing in solidarity with marginalized communities, especially during challenging times like this.
“As women journalists, we recognize the importance of amplifying the voices of those who are often unheard, and we stand with the people of Borno State as they navigate this crisis.”
The Oyo NAWOJ also commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other responders for their efforts in providing aid and relief to the affected individuals. The association called on the government to continue delivering the necessary resources to support the victims and mitigate the disaster’s impact.
“We offer our sincerest condolences and stand with the people of Borno State in spirit. We will continue to use our platform to highlight the plight of the affected communities through our reporting,” the statement concluded.
