The Ibadan Northwest Local Government, under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Alhaji AbdulRahman Olanrewaju Adepoju, held a strategic session with market traders and business entrepreneurs to explore collaborative ways to drive local development. The meeting took place at the Council Secretariat’s Conference Hall in Onireke, Ibadan, where the chairman emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, not targeting traders but supporting them for mutual growth.

During the discussion, Alhaji Adepoju reaffirmed that the current administration, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, prioritizes creating conducive business conditions for all. The chairman stated that this engagement aims to understand the entrepreneurs’ needs and align council initiatives to boost local economic growth. The interaction was a follow-up to the chairman’s recent visit to Temidire Market, which shed light on pressing issues requiring collaborative action.

Alhaji Adepoju stressed the significant contributions of small and medium-scale businesses to the economy and assured them of government support while urging them to fulfill their civic duties by paying the required levies. He also warned entrepreneurs against paying unauthorized officials, ensuring that the local government has systems in place for proper levy collection.

The Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Rachael Olabode, praised the entrepreneurs for their participation despite short notice and reiterated the council’s dedication to supporting their business growth.

Alhaji Jimoh Akande, Chairman of the Eleyele Small Scale Industry, commended the chairman’s proactive leadership and his impromptu visit to the industrial site, which demonstrated a deep understanding of the community’s challenges. He pledged the association’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the government for the betterment of the council.

Entrepreneurs from various sectors, including welding, plastic recycling, and palm kernel production, expressed appreciation for the inclusive platform provided by the council. They highlighted that such dialogues strengthen relationships between businesses and government, paving the way for sustainable development. However, they also appealed for more considerate levy allocations, given the tough economic conditions.

The meeting was attended by the council’s leadership, including the Vice Chairman and Political Head of Okebadan North LCDA, Alhaji Ganiy Abiodun Omotosho, along with other council officials. Their presence underscored the significance of the discussions and the council’s collective commitment to supporting local businesses.

With this engagement, the Ibadan Northwest Local Government has set the stage for improved cooperation and growth, reflecting its dedication to developing both the market and the wider community.
